# Authentication

> API keys, rotation and security

# Authentication

All endpoints use Bearer token authentication.

## OpenAI format

```
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_RADIUM_API_KEY
```

## Anthropic format

```
x-api-key: YOUR_RADIUM_API_KEY
```

The `Authorization: Bearer` header also works for `/v1/messages`.

## One key, all models

A single API key works across Hal 1.0, Clarke 1.0 and Tycho 1.0. Switch models by changing the `model` parameter in your request.

## Getting a key

1. Go to [deploy.radium.cloud](https://deploy.radium.cloud) and sign up
2. Navigate to **API Keys** in the dashboard sidebar
3. Click **Create key**, give it a name and copy the value
4. Export it in your terminal: `export RADIUM_API_KEY="YOUR_KEY"`

## Rotation and revocation

Rotate keys from the dashboard at any time. Revoked keys return `401` immediately. Create a new key before revoking the old one to avoid downtime.

<Warning>
  Never ship your API key in client-side code or commit it to version control. Use environment variables or a secrets manager.
